Andy is a pediatric nurse practitioner. A pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) is a nationally certified; master’s prepared advance practice nurse. PNPs provide a broad range of primary health care services for children from birth to early adulthood. They perform physical examinations and developmental assessments, manage common pediatric illnesses, and help families meet their health needs. PNPs are uniquely qualified to provide families with guidance to learn skills that foster healthy lifestyles (American Nurses Association, 1996).
Andy received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Michigan and her master’s degree from the University of Colorado. She is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner with twelve years experience in primary pediatrics. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner Andy worked as a nurse in neonatal intensive care units in Chicago, Boston, and Denver. She also spent some time working as a nurse in the emergency department at The Children’s Hospital in Denver. Andy enjoyed working as a hospital based nurse but wanted to be able to provide more comprehensive care for her patients. She loves her job as a PNP and could not imagine doing anything else.
Andy lives in Dexter with her husband and two boys, Ransom and Ben.
